Social Development Programme in urban slums of Ghaziabad district
Supported by Micromatic Grinding Technologies
Nurturing young minds, supporting families, and building stronger communities.
In the crowded urban slum settlements of Ghaziabad, many children between 3 and 6 years of age begin life without access to child care and development facilities including lack of safe learning spaces and nutrition.
Through community-based Balwadi Centres, Gram Niyojan Kendra, in partnership with Micromatic Grinding Technologies (MGT), creates nurturing spaces where young children receive early education, nutrition support, regular growth monitoring and emotional care. Alongside this, mothers and adolescents are engaged through health awareness and life skills initiatives that strengthen families and communities.
The programme also supports education for adolescent girls who are forced to stay at home after completing Class 12 due to financial constraints or family pressure. Through continued family counselling, GNK re-enrols these girls into colleges and fully supports their admission, tuition and educational expenses, enabling them to continue higher education with dignity and confidence.
Self-Help Groups have also been formed under the programme, with four active groups where women regularly save and practice inter-loaning to support each other’s small needs and enterprises. This collective platform has helped women build financial discipline, mutual support and increased confidence. Members report greater independence and stronger participation in household and community decisions.

Testimonials:
I learnt a lot as a Volunteer at the GNK when I was placed in a Child Care Centre at Bapudham, Ghaziabad to work with 3 to 6 year old children. I was unaware of so many problems and am grateful for the insights provided to me. The project needs many more interns and volunteers who can work selflessly to uplift slum population and rural communities.

After completing Class 12, Saloni was forced to stay at home as her parents were hesitant to let her continue her studies due to safety concerns. Gradually, her dreams began to fade. Through regular counselling by GNK–MGT programme staff, her family was encouraged to see education as a source of strength, independence and security for girls.
With GNK–MGT’s support, Saloni was enrolled at Ram Chameli Chaddha Vishvas College, with all admission and education-related expenses covered. Today, she is pursuing her graduation and aspires to become a lawyer. GNK–MGT opened a new door in her life, helping her reclaim her dreams and confidence.
Creating safe childhoods and protecting young lives.
In the vulnerable border communities of Maharajganj district, UP, many children grow up facing risk of child marriage, unsafe migration, trafficking and forced to drop out from school. Poverty, lack of awareness and limited access to protection systems often place young lives at serious risk.
Gram Niyojan Kendra’s Child Protection Programme supported by Azim Premji Foundation works to change this reality by building safe, alert and caring communities. Through children’s groups, family counselling and close coordination with child protection institutions, GNK ensures that risks are identified early, children are protected on time and every child gets the chance to stay in school and grow up with dignity, safety and hope.
Program Objectives
Equip children and parents with the knowledge to protect children’s rights and foster responsible citizens.
Prevent child marriage, trafficking and abuse
Ensure dropout and at-risk children return to school
Build children’s awareness of rights and personal safety
Improve access to government child protection systems
