Dr. Sutapa Mukherjee is the founder Secretary of Gram Niyojan Kendra.

Before setting up Gram Niyojan Kendra, Dr Mukherjee worked as a research associate with Gandhi Peace Foundation a leading national level Gandhian organisation. Since 1977, Dr. Mukherjee has committed herself fully to the growth and development of Gram Niyojan Kendra. As Secretary-cum-Executive Director she has been responsible for planning and implementation of all activities at the Kendra. Dr. Mukherjee has been the lead researcher on all research studies on Trafficking of Women and girls, undertaken by GNK.

She has served as a Member of the State Social Welfare Advisory Board, Government of Uttar Pradesh and was felicitated as the “Woman Social Worker” in 2002 by the Government of Uttar Pradesh. Dr. Mukherjee completed her PHD in Social Work from Jamia Milia Islamia and did her MSW from Delhi School of Social Work.
