The intervention is being implemented in 20 Gram Panchayats in Kodia Block of Gorakhpur District Uttar Pradesh. The activities focus on empowerment of persons with disability and strengthening community based rehabilitation. The activities cover 9370 families in the area and is directly working with 472 persons / children with disabilities.

 

Activities include:

  • Providing medical Aids and appliances to improve mobility and other functional and sensory needs
  • Community and family awareness to improve home based care and reduce the stigma towards people with disability. Community events are held on regular basis for promoting participation of the people with disabilities in various activities.
  • Providing home based educational support and ensuring enrolment of children in AWCs and schools. Regular interaction meeting with school management committees (SMCs), Parents teachers associations (PTAs) and educational institutions are undertaken to promote inclusion and provision of right to education for children with disability.
  • Accessing social protection schemes and other entitlements for livelihood and care and treatment of people with disability. Regular interactions are held with PRI, BDO office and district magistrate office to access social security schemes.
  • Improving mainstream service provision for people with disabilities by awareness generation and regular interface with stakeholders at district, block and panchayat level.
  • Mobilising and forming a network of people with disabilities across the villages. A block level DPO (Disable people’s Organization) has been formed and strengthened to represent the unheard voices.
